Ultrasound Sonography

ULTRASOUND Sonography

Sonography is a non-invasive, outpatient imaging technique that uses sound waves to visualize internal organs. At iSHA hospital, we use high-quality ultrasound to accurately diagnose abdominal and pelvic conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and to monitor follicular growth during fertility treatments.

Sonography in Fertility & ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology)

At iSHA hospital, ultrasound plays a vital role in monitoring fertility cycles, especially during treatments like IUI, IVF, and ICSI.

Follicular Sonography

This involves a series of ultrasounds to track the growth and maturity of follicles (eggs) during the menstrual cycle:

  • On Day 2 of the period, a transvaginal scan assesses the antral follicle count, providing a baseline for ovarian reserve.

  • From Day 8 onwards, follicular growth and endometrial lining thickness are monitored every alternate day until ovulation occurs.

Application in Different Cycles:

  • Natural Cycles – Timed intercourse is recommended around ovulation to boost chances of conception.

  • IUI Cycles – Hormonal injection doses are customized based on follicular response; IUI is timed 36–40 hours after the HCG trigger shot.

  • IVF/ICSI Cycles – Hormonal stimulation is tailored to achieve optimal follicle development.

    • Ovum pickup (egg retrieval) is done 36 hours post-HCG injection under sonography guidance.

    • Embryo transfer is also guided by ultrasound to ensure precise placement in the uterus.

Since follicular response can vary from cycle to cycle, these sonographic evaluations are essential for each treatment round to ensure the best possible outcome.
