PESA/TESA

There are some conditions in which the male partner is producing sperms but there is a block in the tube that carries the sperms out of the testes. This is a condition called obstructive azoospermia. In such a scenario, the sperm is retrieved from the testes or the epidymis (where sperms are stored after production) via techniques called Percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration or Testicular sperm aspiration. This sperm retrieval technique is helpful on occasion even for men with non obstructive azoospermia with testicular failure. Dr. Aditi Tandon at her Fertility centre provides her patients with these facilities for sperm retrieval all under one roof.

How It Works ?

The process of IVF-ICSI has the following steps

Patient Evaluation & Preparation

  • These techniques are used for men with low or no sperm in their semen (Azoospermia).

  • The doctor evaluates the patient and schedules the procedure under local or general anesthesia.

Sperm Extraction

  • PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration): A fine needle is inserted into the epididymis to extract sperm.

  • TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration): A needle is inserted directly into the testicle to retrieve sperm.

Sperm Processing

  • The extracted sperm is checked in the lab, processed, and prepared for use in fertility treatments like IVF or ICSI.

Fertilization & Pregnancy Attempt

  • The best-quality sperm is used to fertilize the egg in a laboratory.

  • The resulting embryo is transferred into the woman’s uterus for pregnancy.
