Non Stress Test (NST)

Non-Stress Test (NST) at iSHA hospital

The Non-Stress Test (NST) is a simple, non-invasive, and painless test performed in the later stages of pregnancy—usually after 32 weeks—to assess your baby’s well-being. It monitors the fetal heartbeat in response to movements, helping doctors ensure that your baby is healthy and receiving enough oxygen.

At iSHA hospital, we offer NST as part of our advanced antenatal care services, especially for pregnancies that need closer observation.

Why is NST Done?

NST is typically recommended in high-risk pregnancies or when there’s a need to monitor the baby more closely. Common reasons include:

  • High blood pressure during pregnancy (PIH or preeclampsia)

  • Gestational diabetes or pre-existing diabetes

  • Suspected fetal growth restriction (IUGR)

  • Low amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios)

  • Post-term pregnancy (past the due date)

  • Decreased fetal movements

  • Any other clinical indication requiring extra fetal surveillance

What to Expect During the Test

  • The test usually takes around 20 minutes.

  • A specialized fetal monitoring nurse places a small probe on your abdomen to record the baby’s heartbeat and movements.

  • Our expert doctors then review the results and guide you with the next steps based on the readings.

You may be asked to repeat NST once or twice a week, depending on your condition. After your first test, our team will inform you about the schedule for follow-ups.

At iSHA hospital, your and your baby’s safety is our highest priority. We ensure every NST is performed with utmost care, precision, and compassion.
